1940s Vintage Embroidered Peasant Blouse
![]()

Here's a blouse for the vintage connoisseur: an original, hand-embroidered blouse made of rayon crepe. This is probably from the Carpathian Mountain region in Central Europe. It has a label inside that reads: "Peasant Art Importing Co.".
The fabric has a nice drape, and it really doesn't look like anything you would see today. The color is a neatral maize yellow. The embroidered flowers are in colors of pales pinks to russet tones. There is a braided drawstring.
It has beautiful hand-done smocking around the neck and on the wrists that provides a little stretch due to the sewing pattern, which has no elastic.
Although the sleeves and the top part of the bodice are quite full, the waist area has been brought in with sewn-down pleats.
This would be best for a small to medium size.
It measures:
Bust - 44"
Waist - 32" (no closures or stretch)
Sleeves - 26"
Length - 25.5"
In #1 excellent condition: a rare vintage piece.
